“Steampunk is an inspired movement of creativity and imagination. With a backdrop of either Victorian England or America’s Wild West at hand, modern technologies are re-imagined and realized as elaborate works of art, fashion, and mechanics. If Jules Verne or H.G. Wells were writing their science fiction today, it would be considered “steampunk.” (from http://www.ministryofpeculiaroccurrences.com/what-is-steampunk/)

Because I’m at the stage where every day is a work day – of some sort – and yet this is a holiday weekend, I decided to work on my web page – a little. Brandon and I are doing an overhaul of the website, including a new background (coming soon :<). However, I’ve been putzing here and there on my own, trying out different images and plugins, looking for a particular “feel” that will fit upcoming novels.

One of the plugins I’ve been working with is a progress bar – keeping readers informed of my writing progress will, hopefully, keep me on track :>) I found I like having an image with the progress bar and the image I chose for the new Abby Crumb novel happened to be from Google Images. I uploaded this image a week or so ago, just to see how I liked it and what Brandon thought. I do like the image – enough I decided I’d better track down whoever might hold the copyright to said image.

And thus began the Valentine Adventure.

A little background – I’ve been trying to track down the originator of the following image:

images

Which led me back to Google images which led me to Pinterest which led me to Tumblr which led me back to Google Images to try to “reverse search” the image which led me to Pinterest which led me to various blog posts which led me back to … You get the point. This is apparently a very popular image shared by dozens and dozens of steampunk fans. After much too much time spent clicking through link after link, I came to the following conclusion: If anyone knows who “owns” the copyright to this image, please pass the information along. I would love to congratulate them on having such a popular image as well as give credit where credit is due.

During this fascinating search, I came across some really awesome links that sucked up more of my holiday time :>)

  • Did you know you can actually outfit a car in Steampunk?
  • Did you know there are folks who have very definite opinions of what isn’t Steampunk?
  • Did you know you can get lost searching for anything on Pinterest?

All in all, a fascinating journey. I love the Steampunk fashions and gadgets – a love that dates back to the original Wild, Wild West television show. Artemis Gordon was my hero. Not a surprise to find myself writing in the genre; more of a surprise that it’s taken me so long!
